Lube is not just for sex anymore.

Sexual health brands are making a breakthrough in 2021 by focusing on both sexual pleasure and healthy skin, which are more connected than you think. With sex-positivity brands on the rise, products like lube are beginning to be formulated with more intention and purpose. Lubricants are making their way into the beauty market through their new, innovative formulations that contain ingredients commonly found in our skincare products. Hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, and CBD oil are just a few ingredients that you can also find in your favorite facial oil or moisturizer. As people are learning to treat the skin on their body just the same as they would on their face, lubricants are also working to follow the same path by making sex not just more enjoyable, but also beneficial for the skin.

Are there any dangers to using lube on your face?

We spoke with Dr. Josh Zeichner, director of Cosmetic & Clinical Research in Dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, to find out if there are any dangers to applying lubricants on your face.

“[Lubricants] likely will not cause any harm, but it is unclear whether they will give the same hydrating benefits as traditional moisturizers,” explains Dr.Zeichner. “The genital skin is among the thinnest and most sensitive on the body. So if your skin can tolerate the lubricant in the genitals, likely it will be well tolerated to use on the face as well.”

Below, we rounded up seven lubricants with hydrating ingredients you can use on your face, body, and all the in-betweens.

Lubricants you can use as skincare:

Get Maude Shine Organic Lube ($25)

Get Maude’s Shine Organic Lubricant is an organic formulation with ingredients like sativa seed oil, hyaluronic acid, and aloe leaf extract. All of these ingredients work together to provide deep hydration and anti-inflammatory effects.
